POP3 Virtual Server does not restart.

This effects any of our clients who use Exchange Server 2003. When the Exchange Server is rebooted, the POP3 Virtual Server does not restart. I need to open Exchange System Manager and manually restart the POP3 Virtual Server. Is this a known issue, or is it even considered an issue by Microsoft? Again, before the reboot the POP3 Virtual Server IS running, but after a reboot it is stopped and needs restarted manually. This is on more than one server at different clients. Pretty inconvenient.

I saw another question on here similar to this, but the solution did not help me.

Yeah, this happened to me when windows 2k3 got updated....

it's a "feature" that I too would like resolved.  right now my servers run nicely and doesn't need a reboot.  Until Microsoft forces the system to do so after an auto-update.

Right. We have over 300 clients who we support, and when the server get updated and need rebooting or if a server gets shut down to be relocated (office move the other day), we have to remember to manually restart the POP3 Virtual Server or people's TREOs stop receiving mail, remote users who are popping from home cannot get mail, etc., etc. I really need to resolve this.
I believe it doesn't start up because the POP3 service is dependant on another service to start.  When too much time passes the POP3 service faults, therefore you have to manually start it up..

That's my theory..
Good thought, but the server that I have seen all start up without any errors for services not starting. I have even looked and see the POP3 "service" under services IS started (as well as all the other services that are set to start automatically), but yet the Virtual Server under Exchange System Manager is NOT started.

I guess a script could be written, but this just seems odd and only happens to our clients running Exchange 2003. The ones still running Exchange 2000 do not have this issue and I never saw it until Exchanger 2003. I have seen other people post this same issue on other BBs, but can find nothing on Microsoft's site.
This first happend about 3-4 weeks ago.. about the same time yours did?  I know it was a recent update to the W2k3 server.
That does seem to be about the time frame when I noticed it. Sounds about right.
Hey, this is still open.. what's the status?  Any new development?  I would like to table this or help you out.  If there is a valid answer could you please grade accordingly.  If there were many input from other's splitting the points would be good as we invested our time in helping you out.  Please advise.
I have not found a valid answer yet, other than it may have been a Windows update. So, that might count. I was hoping to find out what update, if anyone knows. Our servers are still having the same problem. You restart them for basic maintenance, and you have to manually restart the POP Virtual Server. Forget, and people with TREOs and the like starting calling. VERY annoying.

Thanks, will give it a shot. I would not be so concerned about it if I was not servicing client's servers. I work for a small IT company that services around 300 client companies, and they don't always leave things alone. So reboots can be more common than in a controlled IT environment.
cool.. thank you!
