asked on

not receiving email from outside domains

I am going crazy right now! I installed GFI faxmaker and a Brooktrout card and I've spent all day, getting it to work. Well, after about 3 necessary quick reboots on the mail server (small network, installed faxmaker on the mailserver), now we cannot receive email from the outside!

I can send to my gmail account, I just can receive anything.

Exchange 2003
PIX 515 E Firewall

I have since disabled the faxcard and stopped the GFI fax services.

Go to dnsreport.com and put in your domain name. See whether the internet can connect to your server.

If not then port 25 traffic isn't getting through.
Look at the PIX, make sure that it is pointing to the correct IP address.
Check that SMTP VS is bound to the correct IP address.

Inside your network, see if you can telnet to port 25 of the Exchange server:

telnet servername 25

where servername is the name of your Exchange server.

ASKER

DNS report came back fine: [Successful connect: Got a good response [250 2.1.5 fakeemail@test.com ]] (took 0.562 seconds)

Pix: Outside and Inside IP address is fine

I can send and receive email from inside the domain.

I can still send email out.

Still cant receive email from outside.....
If the DNS report came back fine then there should be no reason why you aren't receiving email. dnsreport.com uses the information on the internet to scan your system.

Are the messages throwing back an NDR? Any antivirus or antispam on this machine that could be swallowing the messages?

What does message tracking say? Does it show the messages being delivered to your server?

Simon.
Message tracking is saying: "advanced queue failed to deliver message"
I do have GFI mail security and mail essentials on this server

what would you sugguest i do? stop the services and see what's up?

that's exactly what's going on, the email is being sent to the "FailedMail" directory in \GFI\MailSecurity\FailedMails

I recall having to move these emails to a folder in the exchange directory, which folder should I place these email in?
i uninstalled MS9 and now, I can receive from outside.....reinstalling it now.

do you know how i can resend these failed messages?
found it: \Exchsrvr\Mailroot\vsi 1\PickUp
GFI needs to do something about all these issues.....

thanks for your help.
Sorry for abandoning you, but it was gone midnight here and I had to get some sleep. :-D

Simon.
Oh, no problem, you lead me in the right direction.

thanks again.
