Incoming SMTP mail is stuck at Message submitte to categorizer for one user
Exchange 2003 Small Business, Windows XP, Outlook 2003
I have one user whose incoming internet mail is stuck at Message submitted to categorizer (4 messages). I found an answer to exmerge the mailbox to a pst and delete the user.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do this and when I go to help and type exmerge nothing is found, please help!!

I tried that, but the utility aborted, is there any way to get the messages floating in the message tracker out?

I restarted Exchange, new messages are okay, but old messages still stuck. How do I look in the queues?
You can see the queues in Exchange System Manager.
You can see the raw text of the messages in the path that I gave you above. You could try taking the content of the queues and moving them in to the pickup folder which is also in vs1. Exchange should then try to deliver the messages again.

As you can tell, this is totally new to me, our administrator went to lunch one day and never came back, so I have inherited the job. So I went to this path and I also found a BadMail folder, can I cut and paste from BadMail to Pickup to get items delivered (the queue folder was empty).
Thanks for all your help.

This is really bizarre, some of our pop3 mail is getting stuck in the categorizer (just for one one user) others come through fine, I don't understand how this is supposed to work but the problem is intermittent. Can you explain why this works for a day or two and then reverts?
No idea. Just another nail in the coffin for POP3 Connectors. I avoid them where possible. I don't think I have deployed Exchange with a POP3 Connector for over 18 months. There are very few reasons why they are required with the widespread availability of broadband.

So if you have an external internet provider, which normally uses Pop3 and SMTP protocols how do you set it up?
Simple - I switch the MX records on the domain to point at the Exchange server directly - not at the ISPs mail server. If you have any kind of permanent internet connection then it is easily done.

Simon,
I am in over my head with this program, do you have any recommendations on books that would explain Exchange from the ground up? Thanks for your patience and all your help.

My current favourite book for Exchange is the Exchange Cook Book from O'Reily.
What I usually recommend for books is to go and look at some of them and see which one you get on with.
However you cannot go wrong with the Microsoft Press books, so you might want to start with them.

It isn't built in to Exchange, but a download from Microsoft. You need to download it (link in that article) then extract it to the correct location. You can then export the mail using that tool.
