ActiveSync was unable to reach the server (80072f78)

I've recently reinstalled my SBS installation and I've wiped my SmartPhone running WM5 and I'm not trying to sync it with Exchange via USB cable connected to my workstation. When AS comes to sync a specific item, i.e. Calendar, a red exclamation mark appears next to the AS logo and after a few seconds the following error message appears:

------------------------------------------------
ActiveSync was unable to reach the server. Check that the server address and proxy settings are correct.

Support Code:80072f78
------------------------------------------------

I've checked the server address as specified and it is pingable from my workstation. Nothing in Windows Firewall on my XP Workstation has changed in the past few weeks, and the server was only reinstalled a few days ago. Both computers are connected via a switch, so it's not a hardware firewall issue. I can however use Outlook and OWA via the WorkStation no problem using RWW in IE. I can also connect to OWA via the Internet using RWW.

The error code on the MS website points to this: http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?qu=80072f78

I've tried point 1 which was the first thing I checked, tried setting it to auto detect proxy settings too, but still the problem persists.

In my opinion, it's a server issue, but I'm not sure what! My server is running SBS SP1 and Exchange SP2.

I'm not sure if this is the problem, but in IE, if I go to www.domain.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync, I'm prompted to login via the domain, then I get the following error message:

------------------------------------------------
 The page cannot be displayed
The page you are trying to reach cannot be retrieved.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try the following:

Open the www.domain.com home page, and then look for links to the information you want.
Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

Click  Search to look for information on the Internet.
You can also see a list of related sites.

Error 501/505 - Not implemented or not supported

Is this meant to do this?
Right, to add to the confusion, I've just managed to sync via GPRS no problem, so the problem is currently isolated to the USB connection. I have noticed though when connected to the USB, I'm not even prompted on the phone to enforce password policies, but I am when connected via GPRS.

Any ideas?
My fault, it turns out I was using ActiveSync 4.2 Beta and by reinstalling 4.1 magically made the problem disappear! Thank you Microsoft!
