Mail boxes are not being created

Hi,

I have exchange 2003 sp2 installed on windows server 2003 standard ed.
Basically i have two servers.  server 1 i had initially tried to install exchange on but i kept having conflicts and issue with pop service amongst other issues.  I have now installed on server 2 which went without a hicup.

i want server 2 to run exchange.  when i create a new user it adds exchange attributes and i tell it to setup on server 2 but it does not create the email address.  i have restarted, applied exchange updates and used the update service.  no luck
i have also put in the address manually but it still wont let me setup a client account using the test user.

system manager has imported my recepient policies from the first installation on server 1.  which are correct.

i am a bit concerned about the server 1 installation and am wondering if this is causing problems?  i noticed the server 1 is displayed in the system manager aswell as server 2.  although server one is disabled.

can some please help me troubleshoot y my sever 2 is not creating the email addrresses and mail boxes correctly.

thankyou

check the server name in the recipient update server. is it pointing to the old exchange server or the new one.
it should point to the new exchange server as the old one is disabled (this is what you have mentioned)
also check and let me know about the errors in the application log

yeh it was pointing to the old server.  i have changed it to server2 and also changed the domain controller to server 2 also.
does this matter?  server 2 mirrors active directory off server one.  sever one is the dns server though.
server 2 is a domain controller though also.

it has worked i have been able to set up an account and email internally. now to open the firewall and get that working
recipient update service needs to point to a valid and working exchange sever and domain contoller becasue this service is responsible for stamping attributes on a newly created user.

have you got any links for info on securing the exchange server so spammers cannot piggy back off it?
or do i have to ask another question.  the points are yours anyway rakeshmiglani

is there any thing else i need to take into account when setting up this exchange.  im not too familar with this as im sure your aware

thankyou
there are couple of things like sender filtering and recipient filtering that can be configured.
The following link has some very good documentation about Securing Exchange

great thanks.  i have a few more issues now.  can you help me if i give you another 500 points.

i can send mail internally fine.  i can add more mailboxes fine

i cannot send externally.  i get relay errors and when i click send and recieve in outlook it gives me the error (0x8004010f) the operation failed. An object could not be found

i also noticed that the connector was the old server.  i deleted it and created another one (the new server or server 2)
i also set the local bridgehead to server 2, which was originally server 1 in the server 1 connector (which was deleted)

i have also changed the option to fwd all mail through this connector to the following smart host.  in here i put my ISP smtp outgoing mail server

can you help me out with this one

thanks
i think that this mail flow question needs to be handled as a seprate question so that other experts can also participate in it by giving their expert inputs.
