We have a windows 2000 sbs server with sp4 for windows 2000 and sp3 for exchange.
The internet access is via an adsl router.
The server has run fine for 2-3 months, but in the past week the cpu usage is 100% on process inetinfo.exe, making the server unusable. I troubleshooted doing the following -
1 - rebooted server with adsl router off - server was ok
2 - Switched adsl router on with line disconnected - server was ok
3 - Plugged line into adsl router - inetinfo went up to 100% just after line was plugged in.
Exchange is configured to download pop3 via the pop3 connector every 15min and send using smtp.
Next I tried disabling both the pop3 connector and smtp connector and all has been ok for 24 hours.
Is it possible that the smtp connector is being used as an open relay or is the pop3 connector giving the problem?
I checked the smtp connector and it is set to only authenticate ip addresses within the network range of ip.
