To test you extend the circuit to ext.smartjack. you should test the cable before hand,

if this is not point-to-point than you should test with telco, Test loop and insert errors,
ifs point to point than u can test with other end and do same.

All I see is the slot where when RJ45 cable can connect, now what do I do to make the connection work???

by: donjohnstonPosted on 2009-10-20 at 13:36:34ID: 25618293

Run a cable from the smartjack to your CSU/DSU. Then configure the CSU/DSU and the router.

by: totaramPosted on 2009-10-20 at 14:48:22ID: 25618997

I connected the smartjack slot 3 to the T1 CSU/DSU interface of router with the following config:

interface Serial0/1
 ip address 10.1.2.1 255.255.255.0
 encapsulation ppp
 fair-queue
 dce-terminal-timing-enable
 service-module t1 clock source internal
 service-module t1 timeslots 1-24
no shut

But still the S0/1 does not come up...

Any clues?? Should the cable connecting smartjack be straight??

by: donjohnstonPosted on 2009-10-20 at 15:42:58ID: 25619391

Yes. A straight through cable.

What do the LED's where the cable connects to the router show?

What does the output of a "show interface s0/1" show for the interface status?

What does the output of a "show controller t1" show?

Hi Don;
The lights turn green when put str-through cable in T1 CSU/DSU interface.
The router does not have T1 controller but only DSL (1&2) controller. Could that be an issue???

Look at the T1 card, is CD lit?  If not you either have a problem with the t1 or a bad cable.

by: totaramPosted on 2009-10-22 at 13:22:40ID: 25638562

Since it is a T1, do we need T1 crossover cable (not internet) to connect router to smartjack? Pin 1-2 to 4-5..

by: donjohnstonPosted on 2009-10-22 at 13:27:17ID: 25638609

Once again, a straight through cable is all you need.
