how to change Default port WWW port 80?

hi all

Enveronment is Windows 2000 Server and IIS
                 

my intranet page is runing in Win2000 server when i

give URL in web browser like http://servename:80/ my page is opening.

80 is default port it seems

is there any way to change this port number.

Open Internet Service Manager.


Right-click the Web site that you want to change.


Click Properties .


Click the Web Site tab.


Change the TCP Port Number in the TCP Port edit box (or click Advanced for multiple Port settings).


Click OK to save the changes.

but i have one more doubt in Windows 2000 server

system32/drivers/ets/service file

in that file one entry is like www port is 80

is it required to add there also that new port entry or not

after that also if i give my server name it looking for 80 port only.

how to make my new port default

I am not sure your exact question but:
I believe that if you want to add a custom port you should add it to that file.

the default port is always 80.. if you have a custom port .. I believe you must use http://www.sitename.com:portnum

My question is after changeing the port nubber i wanted to give http://www.sitename.com that time it should take automatically my new port number.

like previously when default port 80 it used to go like this http://www.sitename.com

is there any way for this?

hi
 the default port is 80 in all windows but in windows 2000
the port is 8080
you can change the port number in the internet eplorer form
tool --> internet options -->connection-->lansetting[ if you are using LAN] or from settings then change port
if your using proxy choose --> advance then chage the port you want [http]

i have done that long back but when i change port 80 to my coustom port then i have to give URL address to access my site like http://servername:customportno/

but iwanted like this i will change port number

but from browser i will give only my server address.
if you this how to do please tell me.

I thought browsers defaulted to 80.  you had to manually enter the port in the browser URL if it was different than 80. Am I wrong?

See if you can create a Virtual Host for your site in IIS 5.
