Linux Root Server

Hello!

I'm looking for a very good and reliable hosting company to rent a dedicated Linux server with root access. My requirements would be following:

80GB Disk-Space
600 - 1000 GB Transfer
ProFTP FTP Server
Reliable Mail Server (Postfix??)
Apache Web Server
Root Access via SSH
No Software Limits (PHP, Perl, MySQL, etc. preferably pre-installed)
Data Center anywhere in US (preferably out of range of disaster prone areas)
Price Range 60-90 US, max 130 US

Control Panel Software - Confixx Professional (unless anyone can recommend similar or better), Plesk is good too but I think there is a domain limit??

Please also recommend OS (Debian, RedHat, SuSE)...

I have also been recommending 1&1 until now - because their companies in Europe are supposedly very reliable and efficient, but just a couple of days ago actually I heard about customer support at 1and1.com not being so good (over 3 days for replies), and that servers were experiencing downtime for something like 9hours a week (presumably over 1 or 2 weeks). I heard this from a 1&1 customer...

If you are a 1&1 customer at the moment, I'd appreciate it if you could give me some details about support/service/quality/etc. because I have already been thinking about 1&1...

If you're starting from scratch, they may be fine.  I use them as a registrar only, but when I transferred my registration to them for one of my domains, I lost e-mail and web access for over day.  This was AFTER I had called them and spent 20 minutes on hold and specifically asked if I would experience downtime and they assured me I wouldn't.  Then I've had to call them 3 other times and each time I've waited 15 minutes or more - and I've called at varying times.

Well, it seems to me with a dedicated server, you can install what you like.  If Plesk is okay, you might check out layeredtech.com.  As far as a distro, I think it depends on what you're used to.  Debian, RedHat and SuSe are all file distros.  I personally like Debian-based distros, but I've had a good run with RedHat/Fedora as well.  ServerMatrix would be my first choice, but I think they may be out of your price range.

I'm pretty happy with Debian also. I like SuSE as a desktop, but don't know what it's like on a web server, no experience with others...

ServerMatrix sounds good and they have some servers for 129 US which would still be within price range - the only problem is they're all sold out... If you have experience with ServerMatrix, do you think they will "restock" some servers any time soon??

I've heard good reports about server4you.com. Their cheapest server is 49 USD. Has anyone had any experience or heard anything?

I found the perfect choice of servers from rack365.ie starting from about 59 EUR. Servers can be customised with software and hardware and they can even register IP subnets for you with up to 128 IP addresses... I have been testing their pre-sales support and it seems great. "Creditability" also seems good... Sounds perfect to me...

I am giving points for advice/comments I found useful...
