- The Number of Author and Expert Comments
- The Number of Experts Contributing
- The Feedback of the Community
Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Hi. I would like someone to help me with this query...
I have a website (e.g. mydomain.com) that is hosted with a webhost (e.g. webhost1.com) but has a custom MX record pointing to the mail server (exchange) in my office. I want to transfer the domain (mydomain.com) from webhost1.com to my new webhost (e.g. webhost2.com). As I understand it when I make the transfer of the domain the to the new host the new host will set the E-Mail MX records to the default ones it has (i.e. it wont copy the custom MX record across) is that right? If so do I have to wait until the domain is in my control with the new host (webhost2.com) before I can update the MX record to the custom one which I had setup with the old host? Is it possible to create an MX record on my new host before I make the transfer so that as soon as the transfer is complete the MX record will work and I will receive my e-mail?
Basically the main question is. Can I make this domain transfer without any downtime? Propagation etc? If not how much realistically am I looking at?
