Greetings, I have an SBS 2003 server that will host mail on Exchange Server. External website is hosted by third party. I have a question on setting up DNS in GoDaddy.
In the examples below, assume the following:
64.17.x.x = external 3rd party web site server
216.106.x.x = My SBS 2003 server (My DSL static address)
Here's my GoDaddy config. This is lifted right from the GoDaddy Total-DNS control panel. I'm using the plus-sign (+) as a field separator in my description below since I don't think I can space things out where it'll make sense.
A (Host)
Host + Points To
@ + 64.17.x.x
mail.myserver.com + 216.106.x.x
CNAMES (Aliases)
Host + Points To
www + @
MX (Mail Exchange)
Priority + Host + Goes To
10 + mail + mail.myserver.com
The A record and CNAMES records are doing what I want. Namely, pointing to the 3rd party web host server. But the MX records aren't showing up when I query them using MxTools or similar site.
How to I construct the MX records to point to my server while keeping my web traffic going to the external weh server provider. I know this can be done, but every bloody DNS control pane uses slightly different terminology and the the help panels all suck. I've tried several ways of constructing the MX record, no joy.
thanks......
