Question

Reliable Web Hosting service provider

Asked by: Collindsouza

I have registered a domain with www.freeparking.co.uk

I think they were quite expensive as they charged me £24.99 to register a domain for 2 years

my domain name is www.holisticmeditation.com

however i'm now thinking of creating a website. I am good with ASP.NET and SQL Server 2000/2005.. there will be minimal trafic on the site to start with.. May be 5 hits per day at the most.. traffic will increase later as time progresses.

I have 2 Questions

Question 1. Im on the lookout for a economical / reliable service provider where i can host my website and who provides hosting services in ASP.NET with SQL Server and email services based on my domain name?

Question 2. Since my domain is curretly registered with www.freeparking.co.uk What is the process / cost of moving my domain to the service provider where i will host my website?

Assuming you have only registered your domain name with  www.freeparking.co.uk ,
you can purchase hosting service separately. First decide on how much web space you need for your website and emails. Also confirm with the ASP.NET version installed in the server.

I would just ,
http://www.hostony.com
http://www.hostway.com

Once you purchase the hosting services, go to your domain control panel given by www.freeparking.co.uk [if you don't have domain control panel, you can ask them], and just change your Primary and Seconday Nameservers to point to the new hosting servers IP.

For service offerings check out => http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/hosting/compare/

The transfer should be free and usually takes about 3-4 days, but can be quicker depending on DNS propagation...

Q1: The best ASP.NET MS SQL Server web hosting is http://www.dotnetpark.com Affordable, reliable host and brilliant service.

Q2: You can have your domain name registered with Freeparking, but point it to your new hosting provider server (use their DNS servers) - it is free. Also you can use your new hosting provider as your domain registrar, in this case the transfer is free, but you should also pay for 1 year domain renewal.

hi shekerra, how are you?
Thank you very much Dd, so nice of you. Thanks for noting about the cert ;)

I would just to keep your domain with freeparking and purchase hosting separately, it is always good to keep your domain and hosting separate. If you are not happy with freeparking, you can transfer the domain to some other domain registrar when your domain comes for renewal, also note that transferring a domain from one registrar to another registrar takes 8 days normally.

www.hostway.com

that was recommended by one of the experts.  They are a good host.  While the Windows server with ASP and Microsoft SQL will cost more (if you use larger databases), they are worth it.

It all depends on how much you want to spend.

The cost to move your domain = Free.  It happens quickly, but takes about a week for everything to jive right with services and pages pointing to the right area (and making sure old cached pages from your users are cleared out and updated to the new site).  This isn't a host problem... it comes with the territory of moving a site from 1 server to another.
