An older version:

1. delete hsql*-service.xml file present in the C:\jboss\jboss-3.0.6_tomcat-4.1.18\server\default\deploy directory.

2. copy the mssql-service.xml file from the C:\jboss\jboss-3.0.6_tomcat-4.1.18\docs\examples\jca directory to the C:\jboss\jboss-3.0.6_tomcat-4.1.18\server\default\deploy

3. Edit these C:\jboss\jboss-3.0.6_tomcat-4.1.18\server\default\config
a) standardjaws.xml

<jaws>
<datasource>java:/MSSQLDS</datasource>

<type-mapping>MS SQLSERVER2000</type-mapping>
<debug>false</debug>

b) standardjbosscmp-jdbc.xml files.

<defaults>
<datasource>java:/MSSQLDS</datasource>
<datasource-mapping>MS SQLSERVER2000</datasource-mapping>

4. in the mssql-service.xml following changes:

<attribute name="ManagedConnectionFactoryProperties">
<properties>
<config-property name="ConnectionURL" type="java.lang.String">jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://68.165.1.253:1450;DatabaseName=CABIN</config-property>
<config-property name="DriverClass" type="java.lang.String">com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver</config-property>

<config-property name="UserName" type="java.lang.String">mina</config-property>
<config-property name="Password" type="java.lang.String">sm4321</config-property>
</properties>
</attribute>

......
and also

<depends optional-attribute-name="ManagedConnectionPool">
<!--embedded mbean-->
<mbean code="org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool" name="jboss.jca:service=XaTxPool,name=MSSQLDS">

5. in the C:\jboss\jboss-3.0.6_tomcat-4.1.18\server\default\config dir

change the login-config.xml file

<application-policy name = "MSSQLDbRealm">
<authentication>
<login-module code = "org.jboss.resource.security.ConfiguredIdentityLoginModule" flag = "required">

Hi there,
 Can you explain how you actually configured SQL for Jboss so that others can use it as reference ?
The above steps helped me in configring Jboss-3.0.6 & Sql Server am interested in knowing what addtnl steps you have taken to configure JBoss 3.2  & Sql Server , The other reason being of course to see if my answer really justified a  'C' as i was under the impression that confg a higher version would be much simpler than the older on.

Regards

Here is what i have done

JBoss 3.2.x
1. I erased the file hsqldb-ds.xmldin from \jboss\server\default\deploy directory

2.I copied the file mssql-ds.xml from \jboss\docs\examples\jca directory into the \jboss\server\default\deploy directory

3. I have modified the files from \jboss\server\default\config directory

a) standardjaws.xml
<jaws>
<datasource>java:/MSSQLDS</datasource>

<type-mapping>MS SQLSERVER2000</type-mapping>
<debug>false</debug>

b) standardjbosscmp-jdbc.xml

<defaults>
<datasource>java:/MSSQLDS</datasource>
<datasource-mapping>MS SQLSERVER2000</datasource-mapping>

4. In  the file mssql-ds.xml i have modified just the database name , user name and password

5. I have added the following xml info in login-config.xml file from \jboss\server\default\config

<application-policy name = "MSSQLDbRealm">
<authentication>
<login-module code = "org.jboss.resource.security.ConfiguredIdentityLoginModule" flag = "required">
<module-option name = "principal">sa</module-option>
<module-option name = "userName">user</module-option>
<module-option name = "password">passwd</module-option>
<module-option name = "managedConnectionFactoryName">jboss.jca:service=XaTxCM,name=MSSQLDS</module-option>
</login-module>
</authentication>
</application-policy>

There are two reasons why i haven't been satisfied with your answer
1. I specified JBoss 3.2.x and you provided info for JBoss 3.0.6
2. I was hoping to find a way to be able to keep the default data source and use MSSQLDS only in the beans i choose to. Now all the ejb-s i make will use the same database.

Since i could make some out of your answer i have accepted it.

Yours,

:-)

1. My comments started with "An older version:"
2. Your question was "configure JBoss 3.2 for MSSQLServer" i believ thats what was done,
Your question never stated what  you want now "was hoping to find a way to be able to keep the default data source and use MSSQLDS only in the beans i choose to. Now all the ejb-s i make will use the same database."

What i suggest is ask the moderator to refund your points as you were not satisfied with the answer and you were able to solve it urself .
Also ask him/her to keep this question as PAQed so that others can use it as reference.

'C' leaves a bad taste in mouth, wont be able to get over it :-). :-)

No offence.
