Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1

The .NET Framework is a component of the Windows operating system. For developers, the .NET Framework makes it easy to rapidly create powerful software that maximizes performance, scalability, opportunities for integration, reliability, security, and the end-user experience, while minimizing the costs of deployment and management.

Windows users need to install the .NET Framework to run applications developed using the .NET Framework.
This release includes a number of enhancements over version 1.0 of the .NET Framework.  Installing this release is a prerequisite for running applications developed using the .NET Framework 1.1. For more information about .NET Framework, see .NET Framework Home. (This site may be in English.)

Note  If you are downloading the .NET Framework 1.1 onto a machine in a language other than English, and there is a corresponding .NET Framework language pack, it will be downloaded automatically with this install. .NET Framework language packs contain translated text, such as error messages, for languages other than English.

System Requirements

The .NET Framework can be installed on the following operating systems:

Microsoft Windows 98
Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (Windows 98 SE)
Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me)
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (Workstation or Server) with Service Pack 6.0a. ASP.NET is not supported on Windows NT 4.0.
Microsoft Windows 2000 (Professional, Server, Datacenter Server, or Advanced Server) with the latest service pack
Microsoft Windows XP
Windows Server 2003 Family (Installed with the operating system)

You must also be running Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.01 or later for all installations of the .NET Framework.

Hardware Requirements

Pentium 90 MHz processor with a minimum of 32 MB of memory (96 MB recommended)

Additional Requirements for Running Server Applications

One of the following operating systems:
Windows 2000 (Professional, Server, Datacenter Server, or Advanced Server) with the latest service pack
Windows XP Professional
Windows Server 2003 Family
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.6 (MDAC 2.7 SP1 recommended)
Pentium 133 MHz processor with a minimum of 128 MB of memory (256 MB recommended)

To Use the .NET Framework

If requested, restart your computer to complete the installation. No other action is required to run .NET Framework-based applications.

To Uninstall the .NET Framework

Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. (In Windows XP, click Start and then click Control Panel.)
Click Add/Remove Programs.
Click Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and then click Change/Remove. (In Windows 9x, click Add/Remove.)

If you are providing a manual with your CD or at least Installation
Instructions or a Read me file, put in that the application requires
user to have installed Microsoft Network 1.1 and it may be download here: and give them the url.

Further thought, not sure what Microsoft's EULA or License on this is,
but with their permission, you could include it on your CD, provided
there is room to be installed first.
