Check your MX record for your domain

MX records are all pointing to the mail server

How about the rest of your DNS settings?

[remote host address is the local host] usually indicates a DNS issue

The little info I can find about this issue does suggest this. But all domains have got an mx record pointing them to mail and a A record for mail with the IP address.

I also tried having the mx point to a FQD that is diffrent from the domain

I have tried adding even the @ in the localdomains file, but now I get 'unroutable domain' instead of previous error

If you don't mind, could you post the domain name in question. This way I can run some tests against the DNS records and see if I can notice anything out of the ordinary.

ok the domain we are having problems with is

theyellowman.com

The server that must process that email is

mailmaster.txtnation.com axa txtnation03.txtnation.com aka 70.85.156.162 aka 70.85.156.163

This mailmaster currently already handles mail for txtnation.com domain but is supposed to handle 81 domains' email normally.

It also appears that exim is adding records with internal ip addresses to the local resolver

please read

Ok,

Here's what I've noticed:

mailmaster.txtnation.com and txtnation03.txtnation.com both resolve to 70.85.156.162

Your DNS record for theyelloman.com reports 2 configured IP's:

theyellowman.com.       1431    IN      A       70.85.155.226
theyellowman.com.       1431    IN      A       70.85.156.162

The MX record for theyellowman.com resolves to mail.theyellowman.com 70.85.155.226

I'm assuming your domain has been added to the local-host-names file in your mail server?

by: x_terminat_or_3Posted on 2007-05-10 at 10:37:02ID: 19067104

root@txtnation03 [~]# cat /etc/localdomains
@
txtnation.theplanet.host
mailmaster.txtnation.com
txtnation.com
admin.txtnation.com
inbound-london.com
mail.inbound-london.com
corporate-online.net
mail.corporate-online.net
my-charge.com
mail.my-charge.com
mail.theyellowman.com
theyellowman.com

There is no file local-host-names there

by: x_terminat_or_3Posted on 2007-05-10 at 10:38:21ID: 19067114

Hmm that MX record should resolve to 70.85.156.162

by: kenfcampPosted on 2007-05-10 at 11:23:28ID: 19067386

That could be your problem.

I'm assuming the box that has the current IP may not have the localdomain listings you need.
