Is the domain to receive mail listed in /etc/mail/local-host-names ?

http://www.sendmail.org/faq/section4#4.5

by: inovuusPosted on 2009-07-16 at 01:05:20ID: 24867299

@jesper

blah@omegaone.com is external recipient. all domain that host in our server is list on /etc/mail/local-host-names

the problem is, when our datacenter DNS server cannot resolved recipient domain, the bounce backed mail will like above, at behind valid recipient domain will be add moon.com.

i still confused what cause bounce back add moon.com, since our hostname is s1.moon.com

This reads like a local-host-names issue but I'm betting DNS:

omegaone.com.moon.com.

Why is omegaone.com configured in the DNS zone of moon.com if they're two different domains?

One domain per forward zone.

by: inovuusPosted on 2009-07-16 at 09:27:43ID: 24870875

hmm.... let me stright my explanation blah@omegaone.com is example of my recipient domain and this domain is outside any domain that host in my server.
s1.moon.com is my server hostname. DNS is not in the same server, but we used datacenter DNS.

then when server failed to resovled dns at then bounce back like above error.

just wondering why moon.com is in the back of my recipient domain. i never add moon.com in local-host-name. in local-host-name just domain that host in our server.

Give real domain names and I can tell you what is wrong.

by: inovuusPosted on 2009-07-18 at 09:33:46ID: 24886539

ok this is the real domain

example :
Server Hostname : S1.inovuus.com
my email is : denny@inovuus.com
My Recieient is : kelvin.tan@i-innovative.com.sg

when i sent email to my recipient, our datacenter DNS Server is failed to lookup recipient Domain DNS. then got bounce backed message as bellow :

----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<kelvin.tan@i-innovative.com.sg.inovuus.com>
   (reason: 553 5.3.5 system config error)

  ----- Transcript of session follows -----
553 5.3.5 i-innovative.com.sg.inovuus.com config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)
554 5.3.5 Local configuration error

my problem is, why when Datacenter DNS server failed to lookup recipient domain dns. then get bounce backed meesage with "inovuus.com" at the back my recipient domain.
i check my server hostname is s1.inovuus.com. on local-host-name i have 10 domain hosted in my server included inovuus.com. just dont understand why inovuus.com at the back of my rcpt email address. should be kelvin@i-innovative.com.sg.

The real question is why is this address record configured in ns1 and ns2.webvis.net?

i-innovative.com.sg.inovuus.com. 86400 IN A     202.157.133.174

by: inovuusPosted on 2009-07-20 at 08:22:41ID: 24895969

NS1 And NS2 Webvis is our datacenter dns server. thats why i confused why every failed resolving my client domain always falled to my local ip.

its seem my datacenter DNS server problem right ?

actually its not in the list of my DNS, i just request to add www, MX and A record only for my domain inovuus.com. beside of that i dont add it. its seem DNS Server not correctly configure.

so why i post this issue on this forum i need resolution from you.

Ask webvis.net to remove that dns entry and let's start again.
