FTP problems

I have a machine running redhat 6.2. When I log into the FTP server locally or from another machine it delays like 90 seconds before coming up to the place where it asks you for a user name. It works fine after it finally gets to that point. With the FTP command it says this after it finally gets to the point you can login:

530 Please login with USER and PASS
530 Please login with USER and PASS
KERBEROS_4 rejected as an authentication type
Name (pluto:lectos):

At this point I can log in. I think it is trying to log in with Kerberos but I am not using Kerberos. I have looked through all the FTP config files and they are identical to my other linux machine, which works fine. Both machines have Kerberos installed but it is not in use. So I don't think it's a problem with Kerberos. It was like this when I tested it after the install process. I have since tried to setup Kerberos to no avail. I would much rather get rid of the 90 second lag rather than install Kerberos. Anyone have any ideas?
