Do you currently live in India?
If so, it is very unlikely that you will get a job in North America. There are too many people trying out for IT jobs. Many of them have vast experience in the area of linux administration. Moreover, the IT field has not been doing so well over the past couple of years.
You got to be very lucky to get an IT job having no experience (especially if your spoken English is not quite good).

We do not mean to dis-hearten you "ambitious" but face the truth. Things in IT are not as good as they had been earlier.
I am a Linux Sys Admin in US, and an Indian. Have got a job recently in the field but do have about three years experience and do know for sure how hard it's been around here to get any kind of jobs here.
You do not need to give up, because things change and we are expecting a good market next year.
All The Best to you.

Most colleges (2 or 4 year) have some placement / intern program. If not find a good 2 year college (community) and they will definitly have one. You might need to qualify by talking ONE class. Business concider intern as a "try before you buy" deal. Many business prefer this, from temporary employement agencies to colleges.

I have a friend that now works for IBM that started off as intern on a project that was expected to take 6 months (reformatting many documents in many languages by many people) but he wrote Word "Scripts" to do it (interfaces with PHP and Apache on Win32) and generate reports etc. The intern group started with 8 people and ended 2 months later with just him and ONE other intern... IBM was impressed.

As for getting Linux experience... Do you have ANY Unix experience? If not, then you are on the WRONG foot. Self teaching can be best for some of us Unix (GNU/Linux) guys, but for some no amount of training will ever help (please don't take offense).

You must be good at "problem solving" problems that are not in any text books (or possibly few). If so, then grab a copy of Slackware 8.1 (or whatever is newest). Install iproute2, use NETFILTERS (iptables), setup Apache, MySQL, etc... No business will take time out and walk you though this yourself unless you are paying the buck (training).

The IT field is over crowded with an abundance of so-call IT professionals (thanks to idiots like Smart Certified Direct and such), that it is hard to fine real 'spurts from so-call 'spurts. Result, nothing good (from people in positions that are affraid they'll loose it to you to employers burned by a former so-called expert and will not take risk again)! Effect on you, difficult to get into a job where you can use your talents.

Sorry for the glim outlook.

--Doug
