Btw... Could you try the last thing on your linux pc for me? :)
Try "ipchains -L" and "iptables -L" just to make sure there are really no firewall rules set by default.

Interesting... Obviously, somebody or something (RH, which I am not sure about) inserted these rules in there.
Did you try to take off these two lines:
REJECT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp flags:SYN,RST,ACK/SYN reject-with icmp-port-unreachable
REJECT udp -- anywhere anywhere udp reject-with icmp-port-unreachable
Unfortunately, I am not completely sure what they deny. I will look up the documentation later.
In the mean time, try to take them off. You will loose nothing anyway.
