seting up telenet on a custom made linux

hey everyone, I've created my own linux from scratch and so far it just has the bare bones of what a linux OS needs. I wan to try to set this linux OS with a telenet server. The reason i chose telenet is that it seems a whole lot easier to install and set up than ssh, later on i might install ssh. Anyway my problem is how will i got about installing and setting up telenet on my linux software. Does anyone know what i need to get or some site where it has some how tos on how to set one up?

SSH is very easy to nstall, just with it enabed it works. Telnet should work the same way.

You wil have to install the Telnet rpm. What OS is it? Red Hat??

well, I installed the ssh bin and all the libraries. However, when i tried to log on to one of the computers in my network it tells me "I don't exist, go away!" . After a bruised ego, someone was telling me something about having a security key file.

most likely one of the files needed by ssh don't have propper permissions when you get "You don't exist" error.

Probably /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow

I was afraid it would be something like that. do you know or Is there anywhere on  the net where it mentions all the files ssh needs to run properly

Hi,

If SSH tries to use the RSA-key authentication, it wants the id_rsa and id_rsa.pub files in ~/.ssh directory. Normally, these files are generated by the ssh-keygen tool, which should be included in the SSH installation (at least, it is in OpenSSH).

How did you install the ssh binary?
You could download OpenSSH sources and make / make install them.
