I would say:
1. Get 2 ethernet cards for the server
2. Assign one ethernet card for external interface
3. Assign the other for internal network
4. Do network address translation (NAT) for the machines, i.e. each PC has an IP of 192.168.1.* and the default gateway for all of them is the server (192.168.1.1)
All internet traffic would hit the server first, be processed by the server, and routed to the appropriate machine. The real work is setting up the server; you could easily set up a DHCP server on it and hand out IPs to all your Windows ME boxes.
Hope this helps...
You also need firewall go to www.freshmeat.net and search for firewall. You use one interface as eth0 for internal network you setup ifcfg-eth0 and eth1 as extrernal and ifcfg-eth1.
