It seems that kannel was not [able to be] started

1. did you start kannel ?

Look at (especially the "Running Kannel" part)
http://www.kannel.org/download/1.2.1/userguide-1.2.1/userguide.html

2. have a look to /tmp/bearbox.log   /tmp/smsbox.log   and   /var/log/messages

to see if something relevant appeared when launching kannel

I have started kannel (bearer box) and it is listening on port 1300 and 1301 I then started the smsbox which connects to the bearer box and listens for in coming HTTP SMS request on port 13010.  When I then attempt to send a HTTP get request passing sendsms parameter. I get a connection refused message!!! I have tested kannel with the fake smsc program.  Can any help or has experienced this problem before!!!

Thank you in advance!!!

"Connection refused" is typically when
1. the port is not opened - e.g. the program is not started
2. the firewall prevents access on this port / address

Did you have a look to the LOG files as mentioned before ?

Do you have the iptables linux internal firewall working and preventing this access ?

Try a telnet to this port
1. telnet 127.0.0.1 theporttotest
=> does it work (eg do you have connection refused?)
2. telnet IPADDROFYOURSERVER theporttotest
=> does it work?

Please have a look to the LOG files, and try the steps above - it is likely the problem is not located on kannel side.

Ok,

I can get a connection using telnet on port 13013
The last entry in the log file is DEBUG: HTTP: Creating HTTPClient for 127.0.0.1.
Does this prove that kannel is work??
Could it be that I am missing something in my kannel.conf file?

In smsbox group, try to add

bearerbox-host = localhost
log-level = 5

In core

log-level = 5

Try again and please have a look to all core and smsbox log files, + the /var/log/messages

I made the modification which you suggested above to my kannel config file.

I pass the following on the command line

wget http://127.0.0.1:13010/cgi-bin/sendsms?username=tester&password=bar2&to=mobilephonenumber&text=hello+world

it comes by with

     => ' sendsms?username=tester'

Connecting to 127.0.0.1:13010.... failed: Connection refused.

There nothing interesting in the logs
