the file is empty. im using password & user form NIS rather than samba user

I have samba running on redhat enterprise workstation v3 OK until yesterday when i updates samba packages (currently samba-3.0.2-6.3E). Its asked my username & password but do not allow me to login. Below is the entry in the log. Any advice? thanks

check /etc/samba/smbpasswd file - wasn't it overwrited?
