You can set up IP-aliases/networks for any nic you have, though perfomance will degrade, by way of the command: ifconfig eth#:{0;1;2;3... etc} broadcast x.x.x.x netmask x.x.x.x

maximum network card support in redhat linux 8.0
I want to know the maximum number of network interface cards (pci slot) that can be recognized by redhat linux 8.0. I am planning to configure my redhat linux 8.0 server as a router. so i need to know the maximum number of network interfaces that will be recognised by redhat liux 8.0 please do forward u'r suggestions as early as possible.

Hi saravananrajaram,
it would be limited by the slots available on your system...desktop motherboards will have at most 8 slots..
even on servers it would not go much higher...
linux can easily support these..
however...you can be better with a dedicated router as they often contain high speed circuitry to process packets and do their job well than a desktop machine...
