What steps did you pass during setting up smc2635W ?
Anyway , as the green light never flashes , I think first you have to check your pcmcia support . What beeps can be heard when you eject and put again the card ?
What modules are running (lsmod) ?

ok , your pcmcia is all right , the problem is that it don't know what module to alias with that NIC .
How the card is identified you can check after plugging card with command :
#cardctl ident
I think SMC2635W is a Prism2 based , so the best will be to use wlan-ng drivers :
http://www.linux-wlan.com
I think pre21 realize will be good for you . The README file is good enough to help you install and load prism2-cs module .

In fact is a ADMtek 8211, I download the driver source and compile em, then I get a 8211.o file, however i cant execute "insmod 8211.o" neither  "insmod -f 8211.o" because I get an error message than can't load the module because is not GNU licenced.

When I plug in the card and  give "lspci -v" the out put tell me that there is an unknown ethernet device. +

Well , you're right , it's a 8211 based .
But what drivers did you install ? The official one ? Did you try that :

There is much in this page :))) Only the face is a joke ... But the driver is there .

by: Israel_MendezPosted on 2004-09-02 at 06:37:42ID: 11963268

Ok, I give up. How can I get the driver from that page?

by: brabardPosted on 2004-09-02 at 23:09:00ID: 11970497

O , if you can't download it just by clicking , something block it . Sorry , it is a own site with content of drivers , software , etc. without some index . I can't remember where I downloaded the driver , but try to find it in Google .
