The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Two Linux boxes on router - How to transfer files?

Asked by BarryTice in Linux Networking

Tags: linux, transfer, files, from, how

I have two computers running Linux (Red Hat 8 on the desktop, Fedora Core 1 on the laptop). The desktop is wired to a Netgear MR314 router. The laptop connects wirelessly to the same. The router is connected to a DSL modem, for what it's worth.

The two Linux boxes have stable IP addresses assigned by the router: 192.168.0.3 and 192.168.0.4, respectively. (192.168.0.1 gets me to the router control pages. 192.168.0.2 is a Windows box on the network.)

If I have a file on the desktop/Red Hat 8 box that I wish to be able to copy to the laptop, I'll obviously need to enable this on the desktop, and I'll need to know how to get to it from the laptop.

Can anyone direct me to a tutorial that explains this process or gives an appropriate recipe in terms that a Linux noob can understand? I installed Linux to give myself the incentive to use it, but much of what I've been able to find in Google searches assumes a level of knowledge beyond what I have.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
