I turned firewall off......and the problem remained....

I am doing an FTP connection (on my PC) with localhost, and I am logging in with the regular username & password, but then I am getting to the root directory with no files there......(ls is being successfull, but it's returning nothing)...I need some files to do some tests on them....I've done FTP previously from a lab PC to another lab PC, and there were the regular files that are on the other PC, but now there aren't......any help??

Now I discovered that the problem is that the FTP server that I was actually connecting to is Microsoft's...(because I was using cygwin on Windows)....& I can't change its priviliges due to security issues, so now I'll be using a regular Linux OS, and so now there is a new version of the question:

I am using vsftpd (as a server on the localhost), and I want to run it.....but the only way to do that is to use xinetd....but I can't seem to know how to actually run it....any help??

Maybe firewall is on. Just guessing.
