I would imaging because of the fact that you are using vmware. Why not just set up samba in linux to share files with windows?

Thats what I am doing though sorry I didn't make it clear. So the samba serevr is on debian. Am using vmware to emulate windows so I can use windows software without the hassle with wine. I use samba so I can save onto my linux partition and print.

The vmware adapter on the client side is set to emmulate 10mbit LAN. To transfer faster to the host computer from the guest map, enable shared folders and map a few entries (can be does via vm machine properties), then map a drive to:

\\.host\Shared Folders\<sharename>

This will transfer at disk speed. Transfers to other servers outside of your workstation will be slower (10mbit). If you want faster LAN speed you would need to upgrade to vmware ESX server.

Yes I know it has shared folders but it doesn't allow me to write to the hard drive.

Also it's actually 1gb a second . Is it because I have 100mb so it slows it really dramtically. I though t it will just run at 100mbps

It might say 1gb per sec, but if you measure it using ethereal it spans out at only 10mbit. The reason it says 1GB is it's the same networking core as the other VMWARE products, except hamstrung to 10mbit.

The writing via shared folders works fine (i have it on my VM-XP machine to suse9.3), you just need to make sure that the Windows username has a smbpasswd entry and that the passwords are identical.
