Thanks for the info, its easy to mixup the D and the S at the end of the SLE[DS]. I'll try to figure out what I want to do from here with regards to the situation. Thanks for your help ShineOn, I spent a week trying to get the thing to work, well at least I know why it was so hard! I'll probably close this question and award points within a day or so.

The Novell Client for Linux is intended for SLED, not SLES. If you can access the repositories for SLED you might be able to install it on your server. I kind-of did a workaround by using an OpenSuSE repository for the same kernel version as my SLES, but that was a while ago.
If someone else has successfully installed the Novell Client for Linux on a SLES10 SP2, I also would be interested in how it's done.
