The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

routing advice

Asked by kronostm in Linux Networking

Hello,
Here is a setup with a (probably) simple question:

                    -------------------- ISP2
                   |
                   |
                   |
LAN-------- A----VLAN---------ISP1
                             |
                             |
                            B

A is a router (Ubuntu 8.10) with a LAN behind (NAT) and two ISPs (ISP1 and ISP2)
B is a single machine in another location, in a VLAN with server A and ISP1
B's IP address is X.Y.Z.T (public) (ISP1 class)
A's IP address is X.Y.Z.T+1 (public) - for ISP1
A's secondary IP address is A.B.C.D (public) - backup connection - ISP2

In the current setup B has ISP1 as gateway and A has ISP1 as gateway too.
There is a script on A that switches the default route to ISP2 in case ISP1 is down.
What I want to achieve is to be able to use the backup route (ISP2) for the B machine too. This means for B machine I will have to use as gateway X.Y.Z.T+1 (instead of using ISP1)  and it has to be routed by default by server A through ISP1, and in case ISP1 is down, it has to be routed through ISP2.

Anyone can tell me the iptables entries that will accept the connection from B and route it through ISP1 or ISP2 (in case ISP1 is down)?

thank you
