I want to start or stop windows XP services from linux OS using shell script.

Samba contains a tool called 'net', which can do this for you.

The syntax is:

# using a defined username (password is given INTERACTIVELY!)
net rpc service stop <servicename> -U <username>
net rpc service start <servicename> -U <username>
 
# using machine account (doesn't need password, linux machine has to be domain-member)
net rpc service stop <servicename> -P
net rpc service start <servicename> -P

Hi OliverRahner,

Note: I am using linux pc & windows pc in same workgroup.

I have tried this

net rpc service stop <servicename> -I 192.168.1.2 -U administrator

I have entered the windows administrator password after that it showing this error.

Faild to open Service Control Manager, [WERR_ACCESS_DENIED]

Could you, just for the sake of finding the error, try the following:

net rpc service stop <servicename> -S <hostname> -U administrator -w <workgroupname>

If that doesn't work, try

net rpc service stop <servicename> -S <hostname> -U <hostname>\\administrator -w <workgroupname>

I have tried the above two commands, I am facing same error again.
