Iptables - new vs. established conntions

Asked by jcs5003 in Linux Networking, Mandrake Linux, IP Tables/IP Chains

Tags: iptables, linux, firewall, routing

Will iptables route traffic based on weather it is an initial connection or is already connected and can you write rules based on this?
example:
new connection : 80 --> iptables firewall --> forward port 80 to localhost:8080

now that is an estabilished connection the next request could look like

established connection : 80 --> iptables firewall --> leave alone, permit to be connected to the requested destination
