How to setup file and print server using freeNAS

This is a new setup, to setup a file and print server. We want to use FreeNAS, to link to a NAS. BTW, how to setup? any step-by-step procedure or example?

What do you mean by "use freeNAS to link to a NAS"
Do you have any existing NAS?

ASKER

The existing NAS is a Linksys NAS, that provides storage.

Hi,

As gheist has said Linking a Linksys NAS to FreeNas will give you nothing extra, and infact just complicate you setup. Neither are designed to be used like that.

What is you Goal? We maybe able to give you some extra options?

Cheers
Si
Do you want a print server to look like windows print server with shares to have a central point to support all printers (Samba)
OR
You want to connect USB printer to ethernet to configure on each computer (CUPS/LPD)

Are you trying to close down Windows file/print server? What are you trying to do? (As Si already asked)
How many users you intend to serve? Are there any Macs, older Macs or new Win7 computers? Wireless access points? Do you want VPN or SSL-VPN?
There is multitude of options how you can make central authentication server for NAS, print server and normal user sessions. Looking forward hearing from you and to resolve your problems, Andy
You got answer and left the discussion when more help was offered.
DNR? Not chasing points here...
