Windows XP Pro slow login to domain
Hi,
About a year ago I setup a Windows 2000 domain for one of my clients, it has 12 Windows XP Professional machines logging into the domain and one of them is a notebook. Just recently the notebook started logging in very slow. It hangs on the "Applying your personal settings" screen for approximately 60 seconds and periodically runs dog slow once logged in. I know this is usually a DNS problem but I have checked and double checked all DNS settings and they are set exactly the same as all of the other computers (no external DNS addresses). I deleted the root zone (the ".") and added forwarders when I first installed the Server so that is not the problem. I have done a full virus scan, spyware scan, updated network adapter drivers, repaired Windows XP system files and applied XP Service Pack 2 with still no success. I really do not want to format and reinstall Windows XP Pro as the notebook has alot of installed programs that will take a long time to reinstall and the client is a real knit picker and pain in the butt, so if all of his settings are not correct I will cop it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

I have Wingate firewall on the Server and no firewall's on the workstations. The problem was happening before I installed Windows XP SP2 and I have the firewall feature turned off.
first very that DNS is not the problem then try this:

Now some of the other computers are experiencing the same problem and these are the errors in the event log. Looks like DNS but how do i fix it?

And this is wierd... the firewall is getting hammered with port 445 and it is not sasser. I have SP2 and updated antivirus on all machines, and email antivirus on the server.

Did the problem start before or after you installed SP2? I believe SP2 comes with the MS firewall on by default. You may want to check that.
