Choice of firewall

G'Day ...

I am planning to set up an internet firewall and proxy server with as high degree of protection from outside attacks. Currently I am leaning to using a Linux box for this purpose but many people have adverse things to say about it. Many seem to think that a H/W level firewall like the CISCO PIX box to be much more secure and that the Linux solution is too risky due to the fact that so many programmers have access to the source code.

Does anyone agree or disagree with this. Also could you reccomend a solution or reccomend sites which I could visit to help with my decision.
