The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Creating a wireless network

Asked by alkofribas in Miscellaneous Networking, Network Cards & Adapters, Wireless Network Cards & Adapters

I am trying to put together a wireless network. I have a Linksys wireless router with four ports and a high speed Internet connection via a DSL cable modem (well, it's a modem that plugs into the phone jack via an ordinary phone cable and into the Etherfast network card of the desktop computer via a grey network cable, RJ-35, I think). I have two desktop computers and two laptops. I would like to plug the two desktops and one laptop with RJ-35 cables (plugged into the ports of the router, I suppose), and to be able to access this network wirelessly with the second laptop which has a Linksys wireless network card. If I'm correct, it would be like this : the two desktops and one laptop plugged into the ports of the router and the modem plugged into the modem port of the router and into the phone jack, right? My problem is : I have never been able to access my broadband connection through the router. In the manual, there is an URL that is supposed to be that of the router; it should display a page that would allow me to configure the network (although I think there are figures I need to get from my ISP; which are those? IP addresses?) But I have never been able to reach this page (can't be found). Is it because of the firewall of my connection? In short, any ideas on how I should proceed to figure this out?
