Hi all,
I have just added some Win XP Pro computers to our school LAN of mostly W98 computers. The W98 machines can "see" the XP boxes but the XP boxes only "see" each other. The XP boxes can access our Novell server and Win Nt server with no problems. Protocols in place are IPX/SPX and TCP/IP. Workgroup is the same on all computers. All IP addresses are assigned manually.
I tried to ping and net view the w98 box from XP with the following results.
C:\>ping 10.15.125.176

I find it strange that net view <<computer name>> only worked after the net view << IP address>>????
Funny thing is I could access the Lexmark shared printer after performing the net view but the connection was lost on reboot.
I guess I could always run the shared printer off the XP but i would like to be able to access shared directories on the W98 machines. I'd appreciate some help. I don't know what to try next.
Regards,
Sue
