displaying messages on remote display

Hi

We are running several Debian machines in various remote locations and stable ip addresses. I can access all the machines by ssh, but how can I display a message on the screen of some other  user who is having an X session? (I have the root access to all machines if it is necessary).

You need to be cautious about security, but you can set your display to point to that users screen with something like what is below.  Then any x app you execute will show up on their screen.  

******** NOTE:  This is a huge security risk since your root.  MAke sure you know what the app is going to do and what type of "exploits" the user might be able to use to drop to a shell or something.

DISPLAY=:0.0

I don't think you can do this using a su - <username> so that the app runs under their userid unless you make adjustments to xauth files, etc.
