can u give more information?
did u configure IP address on both sides?
what is the ip address?
are they in a same subnet?
go start->run->type cmd->type ipconfig to know your own ip address.

I want to make share files between my Desktop and Laptop. i got Cross-over Cable to. And when i hook it up to both computer it shows that Local Area Connected. also My Computer's workGroup Name is same and Computer Name's are different. basically i did everything that Microsoft's help file said in order to share files between both computers.
However, the Problem is My Laptop shows Recieved bytes and Sending bytes, but Desktop only shows sending not Recieving. can someone help please.
Oh and one more thing my Desktop has XP professional and Laptop has XP Home Edition (just incase if it makes any differnt).

not sure the hardware works fine. Crossover cables prevent automatic speed and duplex mode from working correctly with certain makes of cards, making network behaviour rather weird, it may work for 2 hours, then collapse, etc... So lock Nic card setting to a know mode on either side, like 100baseT/full duplex on each side.
What do you call showing received bytes? a PC is not suposed to show you network traffic during transfer...
