Nslookup Default Server: Unknown
Hello
I been setting up a pilot Machine using Windows 2000 Server. So far I have setup the following:
1. Static IP Address 10.10.10.10
Subnet 255.0.0.0
DNS Servers 10.10.10.10
2. Installed DNS and created:
a. Forward lookup zone using default
Wizard Settings.
b. Reverse Lookup Zone using
10.10.10.in-addr.arpa.dns
.dns IS DEFAULT FOR WINDOWS 2000 SERVER
Start of Authority
Name Server
Host
Present in the Foward lookup Zone
Start of Authority
Name Server
Present in the Reverse lookup Zones
When using NSLOOKUP at the cmd promtp I get:
****Can't find server name for address 10.10.10.10
****Default servers are not available
Default Server: Unknown
Address: 10.10.10.10
Reinstalled TCP/IP on unit, restarted Zone, still same results.
I have read many references on having the reverse lookup zone established in relation to NSlookp, yet I still can't get the desired results.
Any Suggestions?
Has anyone had this problems before?

Did you restart the DNS service so that it would reload the zones for you?
Lrmoore has got it I think - you need a PTR record in your reverse zone which refers to the A record for the DNS server. Also, shouldn't your reverse zone be named:
10.10.10.in-addr.arpa
rather than:
10.10.10.in-addr.arpa.dns
10.10.10.in-addr.arpa
rather than:
10.10.10.in-addr.arpa.dns

I Verified the Zone
Recreated the fowared and reverse lookup zones
Stop and restarted the zone
10.10.10.in-addr.arpa.dns is the default setting provided by Windows 2000 Server for the reverse lookup zone. Still get.

yeah.. u r right ..
but .. have added a record for the ip 10.10.10.10 - name of the host // .. in the reverse look up .. :))
then refresh the server //
the tell me ..:))
then tell me ..
I just noticed - your subnet mask does not match the zone you created. For a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0, your zone should be 10.in-addr.arpa.dns

I recheched all my settings and found that I didn't create the PTR record in the reverse zone.
Thanks again for the support.
