Question

Excahnge 2k problem:0x80072030(8240)

Asked by: joehuang

We have 2 Exchange2K installed on each Domain_controller/window2k_with_Active_Directory_Service for a while, It migrated from Exchange 5.5 2 years ago, no longer in the Mix Mode at all and ADC was removed. Today, I try to install another standalone Exchange 2K server (no_active_Directory_service installed), A Error message "0x80072030(8240)" pop up,installation is unsuccessful as described in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;287172 , I followed the suggested resolution, but it does not work.

Does anyone know how to take care of this problem ?

Please advise.

Did you run E2K setup.exe /forestprep and /domainprep befroe install E2K? This should have disclosed AD problems. I don't know about Q287172. I'd use the adc setup on SP3. It has many fixes for ADC. Also remember to let this sit and perk or a while, so that everything synch's up on its own. Good Luck.
BTW 20 points for E2K ?'s is lame.IMHO ;-)

I did run setup.exe /forestprep, /domainprep and installed ADC when I migrated Excahnge5.5 to Excahange2K, then removed Excahnge5.5, change mixed mode to native mode and uninstalled ADC 2 yeas ago. We still keep Exch SP1.

One of the reason that I do not upgrade to SP3 is, there is an existing problem as below, I think I should fix the problem before upgrade to SP3, so I decide to build a new Exchange Server, then move all mail box to new server, according to microsoft Technet, it will be saftest way that problem will be fixed by new system.

Do You experience any problem while upgrading SP1 to SP3 without upgrade to SP2 first ?

Is it necessary to setup.exe /forestprep and /domainprep again for the new excahnge 2k to joining the existing Organization ?

I've found that running forest and domainprep does not take long in light of the types of problems it may disclose before I run the setup. I've not had any problems updating from base E2k to SP3 directly.
You will most likely need to correct your problem (restore the databases from bacup)before you will be able to perform the Move Mailbox sucessfully.

It is very unlucky that the ESE98 error happened just during the backup action, We are running ArcServe Backup Application here, from the log file of ArcServe, It states the Backup is failed.
