1: Both computers should have unique names and be in the same workgroup.
RIght click on My COmputer in explorer, select Properties - name
2: Set one computer's ip address to 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.2
Set the other computer's ip address to 192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.0.1

also, when i go to network connections to play with the settings, i have local area connection and 1394 connection. which do i mess with when configuring the tcp/ip address?
