Thats for the reply,
The problem is, the individual segments of the network only consist of 6 computers each, so buying a 24port switch is a but unwise.

As an experiment I have two networks that are seperate from eachother, but are required to be on the same physical network. I am considering using a fibre optic cable to connect these networks together, i am unaware of the distance between the networks however I am assuming that they are geographically close.
I havn't dont any physcial fibre optic cable work so can you please post some suggestions on equipment, i am thinking that I will need a special Switch with a fibre optic port but I'm not sure.
Thanks
Dave

ethernet can connect over 100mtr
fibre can connect over kilometers without problems, but that would be too costly
you can even try wireless networking solutions based on 802.11x systems..you would save a lot efforts (cable laying, buying) and money with this..
assuming you have 6 machines at each location,
you can configure one of the machine at each location as a dual home machine (one card for the loca network and other for distant network and then setup routing between the two networks...
this should get your work done

Well, if they are in the same location and you want to run fibre, you could use the Cisco CAT 3548. Or, if they are in seperate locations, you could establish a VPN connection between them with either:
1. Windows 2000 Server
2. PIX VPN COncentrator
3. PIX Firewall
