The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Enabling Remote Desktop w/ Weird Ping Scenario

I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to resolve this:

I have two computers, one running Windows XP and the other Windows 2003 Server. They are both connected to a Linksys BEFSR11 router through a Linksys 4-port switch. Each computer can access the internet and ping the router and any external site with no problems. They cannot ping each other. They do not have firewall software enabled, nor is a firewall enabled though the TCP/IP settings provided by Windows. The XP machine is configured to  be 192.168.1.50 and the Server machine is 192.168.1.100. They have the same subnet mask, 255.255.255.0. The gateway is 192.168.1.1. I have enabled port forwarding on the router to direct port 80 to the Server computer, and it works fine from an external machine (i.e. a webpage is served correctly). My goal is to enable Remote Desktop to allow me to remotely manage the Server computer from the XP machine. I receive the following error:

"The client could not connect to the remote computer.
Remote connections might not be enabled or the computer might be too busy to accept new connections. It is also possible that network problems are preventing your connection.
Please try connecting again later. If the problem continues, contact your adminstrator."

Deliverables:
1) I need to be able to ping the network computers 192.168.1.50 and 192.168.1.100.
2) I need to be able to establish a remote desktop connection between the computers.

This question is worth 125 points.

Thanks in advance!
