How can I get this network to work? I just need to transfer all the files from one PC to the other. No router, just the two connected. Any idea's?
Thanks.

To physically connect the 2 machines, you are going to need a cross over cable... Let me guess, they have already told you that... :) You can make your own...!!
Using a standard type B pinout on one end:
1 Orange-White
2 Orange
3 Green-White
4 Blue
5 Blue-White
6 Green
7 Brown-White
8 Brown
Then you reverse Pins 1 and 3 then 2 and 6 on the other end:
1 Green-White
2 Green
3 Orange-White
4 Blue
5 Blue-White
6 Orange
7 Brown-White
8 Brown
There is your cross over...
Just for ease of sharing and access, you will want to make sure that the user account and password you are using exists on both machines, preferably with Administrator access..
Once this is done, on the machine that has the information you would like to share, goto the folder that has the information you would like to share... When you see the data you want to share, in the menu across the top goto tools, folder options and select the view tab. Scroll all the way down to the bottom and uncheck the box for Use Simple file sharing.. It can be somewhat confusing. Now click ok to get out of the folder options.
Now in the folder where you see the data you wish to share, in the upper left hand corner next to the folder name you will see a small folder/drive Icon. Right click on it and select Sharing and Security. Next select the option that says Share this folder. Give it a share name. Click on permissions and make sure the user you created has access to the share and OK all the way out.
Now goto the destination machine.
Click start then Run. In the open field type \\(SourceMachinesName)\(Sh
for ex. \\machine\share
Hit Enter or click ok...
If this does not bring up the data on the other machine let me know... We then have to go through the process of making sure your network is setup correctly... :)
Enjoy
