The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Firewall routing help!  Remote branches connect via frame relay can't access the internet.

Asked by aaronj in Miscellaneous Networking, Networking Hardware Firewalls, Consumer Firewalls

I recently purchased a Firebox 500 to replace an outdated Lucent firewall.  I think i have configured the Firebox identically to the Lucent but users that connect to our T-1 internet pipe through our frame relay network can't access the internet.  Our configuration is as follows:

Main office where T-1 comes in:   Trusted side of firewall = 128.1.17.9 (I inherited the address scheme)
Cisco 3600 series = 128.1.17.1
remote office example Kentwood = 128.1.49.1 (Cisco 1720)

I have a static route set up in the Firebox of 128.1.49.0/24  with a gateway of 128.1.17.1 (cisco 3600)

In the Cisco 3600 i have a default route of 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 128.1.17.9

I have the default gateway for all of my clients set up as their Cisco route so in the main office it is 128.1.17.1 and in Kentwood it is 128.1.49.1.

Am i missing something?  It seems to me that the default request from the branch office should go through the 3600, pick up the default route and go to the Firebox.

Thanks!
