The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Continue to lose internet

Hello all,

I have a problem that I can't seem to resolve.  I just got a home business broadband account, therefore Time Warner came out to my home and replaced my old Cable Modem with a new Cable Modem Router (Ambit router).  I already own a Belkin Router with a built-in firewall.  I would like to continue using my Belkin Router/Firewall with the new Cable Modem Router.

I have 3 PC's (Windows 2000 server and 2 Windows 2003 servers) currently on my network and 1 laptop(Windows XP).  I have two nic's in one server...1 nic has a static external IP and plugs straight into the Cable Modem Router (no problems there - I don't lose internet on that nic).  The other nic goes into a 3Com 8-port hub as well as the rest of the PC's and the hub is connected to the Belkin Router...the Belkin Router is daisy-chained to the Cable Modem Router.  My problem is that i continue to lose internet access.  I believe it has to do with the Belkin Router talking to the Cable modem Router (but I don't know how to fix it ) because I noticed in the security log of the Belkin Router Firewall that it shows attacks from the IP of the Cable Modem Router.  The Belkin Router has a IP of 192.168.2.1 and the Cable Modem Router has a iP of 192.168.1.1.

I can not change the IP of either of the routers..nor does the Belkin Firewall have a way to include a trusted network/zone.  I lose internet access temporarily and then it comes back intemittenly.  I am not using a crossover cable for any of the connections.  The Belkin Router has a CAT5 plugged into the WAN port going to one of the Cable Modem Router LAN ports.  The Belkin Router connects to the hub with a common CAT5.  MAC Addressing is disabled on the routers.

I'm only experiencing interent issues.  The internal network works perfectly fine.  The interenet loses connection every so often then comes back and then loses connection again..so on and so on.

Any suggestions and help is appreciated.  Thanks.
