Need printer for the Linksys Printserver WPS54GU2

I currently own a Linksys Printserver WPS54GU2. I am looking to buy a new USB printer for it. My current printer Lexmark Z32 does not work well with the printserver. According to Lexmark my current printer was not design to work with such network printserver.

“The Z32 is not an inkjet model that is supported in a network environment. Our inkjet printers that are supported on a network are limited to several factors. In a peer to peer environment, supported printers require like operating systems, thus no Windows 98/ME to XP/2000 shares etc. The reason for this limitation is that the Z32 is a host based
printer that uses an operating system dependent datastream.”

I am tired of that old slow printer anyway. I want to get a laser printer.

I would like to know if anyone is using the printserver mentioned above and what type of laser printer or regular printer you are using with it.

Avoid any "multi-function" printers (fax, scanner, printer) as they will generally not work. Your best bet is to use a Linksys print server with a parallel port, and purchased a used LaserJet 6P.

I didn’t plan on getting one of those “multi-function” printers anyway. I feel that if one feature breaks then the unit suffers.

Currently I have a LaserJet II (B&W) on the parallel port. It performs perfectly. Now if I can just get a color laser printer that will print when it is connected to the USB port on the back of the printserver.

Look for a Printer with an internal network adapter. such a printer is guaranteed to wotk on a lan and you won't be required to to buy a dedicated printserver box.

Your suggestion makes would have made things easier. But since I have more than one printer I thought buying a printeserver and connect them both to it would be the better choice.

Look for a printer that lists other OS's in printer description features. Many of the low cost laser printers are winprinters, and these do not work with printservers.
