The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

DNS on Server 2003- setting up Server to be DNS/Web server

Asked by scotthere in Miscellaneous Networking, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name Service (DNS)

Tags: 2003, server, dns

I have a server with Windows Server 2003 standard on it.  I want to make it a DNS server - Mail Server- Web Server.  The machine has 5 static public IP addresses. w.x.y.218 through w.x.y.222.  Let's say the computer is named pc.  Let's say the domain that I have registered is mydomain.com.

I have put a web page that should be able to be accessed from the Internet.  When I go to www.mydomain.com, I get “We can’t find….”  Check availability of mydomain.com” etc.  so it’s not resolving.  I can ping www.mydomain.com, and mydomain.com, and get replies from w.x.y.220

What do I need to do to get www.mydomain.com to open the page I have configured?
Thanks,
Scott

Godaddy (where it was registered) lists DNS servers for Mydomain.com as ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com.  I have set up a forward lookup zone called mydomain.com.  It has the following records:

(same as parent folder)  SOA [26], mydomain.com., hostmaster.mydomain.com.
(same as parent folder)  Name Server (NS) ns1.mydomain.com
(same as parent folder)  Name Server (NS) ns1.mydomain.com
(same as parent folder)  Name Server (NS) pc.mydomain.com
(same as parent folder)  Host (A)
(same as parent folder)  Mail Exchanger (MX) [10] mydomain.com
mail    Host (A) w.x.y.221
ns1    Host (A) w.x.y.218
ns2    Host (A) w.x.y.219
pc    Host (A) w.x.y.218
pc    Host (A) w.x.y.219
www    Host (A) w.x.y.220
