The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Connecting Linksys wrt54g wireless router to SBC DSL

I am running Windows XP Pro  SP2 and wish to connect Linksys WRT54G wireless router.  I am using a Speedstream 5100 DSL modem supplied by SBC.  I have good connection to the computer and good service.  Following Linksys's directions I installed the router and am able to get limited connectivity.  When I check my Network Connections it shows I have a connected LAN however my broadband connection is disconnected.  When I attempt to connect it is unable to  and I evenually receive a #678 error. Pretty much I can not connect to their server (I thinK), I get the home page but when I try for mail or any of their srevices I can not get anything.   Other web pages are available. I am able to access the router IP and get into its setup.

I double checked all the setting given by Linksys, such as obtaining the IP address automatically, and DNS automatically in properties section of internet protocal etc.

I e-mailed SBC and they replied by advising me that the following information could be used to set up network using any router

Host Name:           Any text less than 15 letters
      Domain Name:       sbcglobal.net
      Service type:          Dynamic
      Service name:        SBC
Encapsulation:         PPoE  (non-Cisco router),   HDLC   (Cisco router)
DNS Settings:          151.164.1.8  (Primary),   206.13.28.12  (Secondary)

They did not however explain what to do with the information. I tried inserting the DNS numbers where I thought they may belong but to no avail.

I ran an ipconfig (without router) and it is as follows:

Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection

Connection to Specific DNS Suffix:         Blank
     Auto configure IP Address:                    169.254.9.127
     Subnet Mask:                                      255.255.0.0
     Default Gateway:                                  Blank

PPP Adapter

Connection to Specfic DNS Suffix:           Blank
      IP Address:                                          67.65.137.151
      Subnet Mask:                                       255.255.0.0
      Default Gateway:                                   67.65.137.151

So can somebody lead me in the right direction?  I am no where near an expert but am no newbe to using the computer.
By the way I e-mailed Linksys help 4 days ago and am still waiting a response that was supposed to be returned in 24 hours.  I realize with the holidays it may take longer so I am still waiting.  I ran across this sight doing a google search and hoped by joining I could get someone to help me.

Thanks in advance.
